Yxyryu Aikido

Aikido takes place in a context of swirling flow and dynamic momentum. In such an environment the Aikidoka is constantly tuning in to the energies and wherever there is resistance she rides the wave and goes with the flow. Spirals and waves, currents and flow: these are the forms of Nature which constitute the foundation of the Art.

Here, Nagi has vortexed out of uki's attempt at an elbow lock and has taken her balance (kuzushi) in preparation for his counter move; a wave-crest across her forearm (oshi taoshi).

A snap-shot of one point in time (such as the photo above) cannot adequately show the sudden beauty of these spinning circles because they exist in a medium of circular fluidity, which is forever Whole.
